Happy New Year! I’m sure you’re working hard at your resolutions, but don’t forget that Valentine's Day is next month! Pssst.. It’s February 14th. Don’t get so stuck in the #2026grindset that you are stuck calling in for reservations last minute.
Small Rant: on’t be one of those guys who goes on a rant about consumerism, Hallmark, and that you should be romantic 365 days a year and blah blah blah... You’re lame. Buy them some flowers, damn it! Also, buy them from a small business if you’re so concerned with the economy.
If you live in Kansas City, or nearby, I’ve put together my top 5 affordable date ideas so you can get your reservations in today. I believe that love is an experience, so these recommendations might be a bit more adrenaline, and a little less Olive Garden, if you’re picking up my vibe.
1. KC Helicopter Tour: Relationship feeling stuck in the same perspective? Try looking at it from a new angle, or a birds eye view. Some quick google searching showed me that you can book a flight for as little as $65. At the time of this post, their Valentines Day tours aren’t booked yet, but you can click on their all year round tours and book one for that date. Feel free to shop around, but this one seemed legit: Airo Helicopter Tours
2. Rage Room: You can’t spell love without demolition. Step into a world of sreamo music, sledge hammers, and emotionally charged destruction. Because couples who break together, stay together. I think I read that somewhere: Check these guys out. Looks like you can book for as little as $30. Super Smash KC
3. Indoor Skydiving: I haven’t tried this one yet, so maybe we will this year. I found Indoor skydiving for as little as $80/person, but looks like you can spend a lot more if you want to: iFly Indoor Skydiving, but rumor has it they have a groupon.
4. Ice Skating: Every year, we go ice skating, because there’s nothing like stumbling around like Bambi on ice to get the giggles going and spark some fun in your relationship. Crown Center will be open until 10pm, and it looks like it’s about $16/person. Pro tip: it is not romantic for her to watch you go as fast as you can the entire time… learned that the hard way: Crown Center
5. Couples Massage. Okay. So this one is probably the priciest, but totally worth it if you’ve had a stressful year, and your shoulders are tight from covering your neck in the on-and-off cold weather in Kansas this year. Looks like $240 + tip can get you access to 60 minutes of a couples massage. Here’s one we’ve liked: Spa On Penn
6. Not a date idea, but thought I’d throw in a shameless plug. I’m Chris Griese, a couples therapist in KC, and sometimes, fancy dates aren’t enough.
